Football Finds A Way To Defeat Jamestown

Jamestown, N.D. – The Black Hills State University football team defeated Jamestown Saturday afternoon 28-25 behind three touchdowns from freshman running back Bryar DeSanti.

After a scoreless first quarter, Jamestown struck first in the game on a 4-yard run by Josh Ewalt to take a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.  The Yellow Jackets first point also came in the second quarter after Chase Tyson blocked a punt in the end zone that Black Hills State's Michael Oberle would fall on tying the game at 7-7.

DeSanti would get his first touchdown of the day after taking a pass from quarterback Drew Hodgs 56 yards.  Jamestown responded to the Yellow Jacket touchdown with a 43-yard field goal from Nate Nygard making the score 14-10.

The fourth quarter would see the majority of the scoring.  DeSanti struck again for the Yellow Jackets with a 54-yard touchdown catch, giving Black Hills State an 11 point lead with just over six minutes to go.  The Jimmies again answered with an 11-yard touchdown run by Casey Hausauer and would convert a 2-point attempt to cut the Yellow Jacket lead to three.  On the ensuing Black Hills State possession, DeSanti would rattle off a 53-yard run to push the lead back to ten with just over a minute remaining in the game.  Jamestown, however, would not quit.  The Jimmies would score with seven seconds left on a pass from Mike Beehler to Ewalt.  The following onside-kick attempt would be recovered by the Yellow Jackets to preserve the 25-28 victory.

“It took a total team effort for us to get this win today,” said head coach Jay Long.  “We had a score on special teams, the offense found a way to get in the end zone, and the defense made stops when they had to.  Jamestown is a good team and this is a good in conference win for us.”

Black Hills State will face another Dakota Athletic Conference opponent on the road next week when the team travels to Mayville, N.D. to take on Mayville State.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT/12 noon MT.  The broadcast can be heard locally on KDSJ 980 AM or online at www.kdsj980.com.
