Spearfish, S.D. - The Black Hills State University football team defeated the Minot State Beavers 10-7 at Lyle Hare Stadium in Spearfish Saturday. Junior defensive back Joey Brown intercepted CJ Evan in the final minutes to set-up the game winning field goal by junior Devin Rounds.
"I have coached here since 2003 and Minot always plays us tight," said head coach Jay Long. "Today was huge for our guys to get the win, they all played hard. I'm proud of how our defense performed, Minot ran over 80 plays and we only gave up seven points. Joey Brown and our defensive line really set the tone for the game."
The Yellow Jacket defense set the tone of the game; they gave up 327 yards of offense but only allowed the Beavers to score seven points. Junior linebacker Ryan Lee led the charge defensively, he finished the contest with nine tackles, half a sack and one tackle for a loss. Junior Defensive lineman Sterling Boylan proved to be a force to be reckoned with. Boylan finished the contest with seven tackles, one sack and 2.5 tackles for a loss. Junior defensive back Joey Brown picked off CJ Evans to set up the Rounds field goal in the final minutes of the game.
Black Hills State was led offensively by sophomore quarterback Wes Kragt who finished the contest 11-18 for 129 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. The Yellow Jacket rushing attack was led by sophomore Bryar Desanti who gained 77 yards on the ground. Senior wide receiver Ryan Fagerstrom finished with two catches for 81 yards and a touchdown.
The Yellow Jackets will wrap-up their season against rival S.D. Mines and Technology Saturday, November 12 at Lyle Hare Stadium in Spearfish. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
