Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University football team fell to Adams State 35-14 on Saturday at Lyle Hare Stadium in Spearfish, S.D.
"We need to do a better job starting football games," said head coach Jay Long. "In all three games this season we have had a turnover during the opening drives. That makes it tough to win football games."
The Yellow Jackets gave up 15 points in the first quarter and 20 points in the third quarter. Black Hills State committed four turnovers. Sophomore quarterback Wes Kragt completed 12-of-27 passes for 160 yards and had two interceptions. Sophomore running back Drew Nielsen finished the game with 28 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Defensively, Black Hills State was led by Randall Hill who had five tackles, two sacks and an interception. Trent Turbiville led the Yellow Jackets in tackles. He finished the game with eight tackles.
With the loss, Black Hills State falls to 0-3 on the year.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Saturday, September 17 as they take of S.D. School of Mines in Rapid City, S.D. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m. and can be heard locally on 980 AM KDSJ.
