Grand Forks, N.D. - The Black Hills State University football team was defeated 53-19 by North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D.
The tone of the game was set for North Dakota on the first offensive play for Black Hills State. The Yellow Jackets fumbled the opening offensive play of the game and North Dakota picked it up and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown only 16 seconds into the game. The Fighting Sioux would find the end zone two more times in the first quarter and lead the Yellow Jackets 23-0 after the first fifteen minutes of play.
North Dakota would score 30 unanswered points in the half. Black Hills State would finally get on the scoreboard late in the first half with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Ward Anderson to Ryan Fagerstrom.
The third quarter saw North Dakota continue to grind out yards on the ground. The Fighting Sioux would put up 14 more points in the quarter and lead the Yellow Jackets 44-7 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Black Hills State would show no signs of quitting. After a big punt return by Joey Brown setting up the Yellow Jackets on the North Dakota 27-yardline, Black Hills State score a touchdown on a 1-yard touchdown run by Anderson. However, the point after attempt would be blocked and North Dakota returned it for two points. After another North Dakota touchdown, Michael Jager would find the end zone on a 2-yard run.
Anderson threw for 171 yards and one touchdown in the game. He went 13-of-32 passing and also had one interception. Bryar DeSanti was the leading rusher in the game for the Yellow Jackets gaining 82 yards on 13 carries. Fagerstrom led all receivers in the contest with 138 yards on six receptions. Ryan Lee was the leading tackler for the Yellow Jackets with 11. North Dakota tallied 337 rushing yards in the game.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Minot, N.D. on October 1 to face Minot State. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT/12 noon MT. The broadcast can be heard locally on KDSJ 980 AM.
