Yellow Jackets lose to Chadron State

Spearfish, S.D.  – The Black Hills State football team was not able to stop the high-powered offense of Chadron State on Saturday afternoon and fell to the Eagles 62-14.

Chadron State took an early 14-0 lead behind the arm and legs of quarterback John McLain. The Yellow Jackets answered with a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ward Anderson to Daniel Hancock. The Yellow Jackets trailed 14-7 with 6:36 left in the first quarter.

On the opposing drive, McLain found wide receiver Nathan Ross for an 80-yard touchdown.  The Yellow Jackets once again answered with a 2-yard quarterback keeper from Anderson to cut the lead to seven. BHSU was shutout for the remainder of the game.

Anderson ended the game 22-for-39 with 207 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

 Hancock led the Yellow Jackets through the air with 100 yards on 11 receptions and one touchdown. Freshman Jeremy Woods had another solid performance with 63 yards on three receptions. Trent Butler was the leading BHSU rusher with 42 yards on nine carries. Bryar DeSanti added 34 rushing yards on 15 attempts.

On the defensive side, Randall Hill had a team-high 10 tackles. Linebacker Scott Soderstrom and Joey Brown each recorded eight tackles. Brown also picked-off McLain for his only interception on the day. Trent Turbiville, Jeremy Tuten and Scott Boner each had seven tackles. Turbiville also added two tackles for a loss.

The Yellow Jackets now face their biggest challenge of the season as they face off against the top-team in the nation, Colorado State University-Pueblo. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Pueblo.
