Costa Rica, - The Black Hills State University women's basketball team ended their season on a positive note as they defeated the Costa Rica National Team B by a score of 58-40 behind a solid effort by their two seniors Kristi Ryan and Bayley Chevron.
"It is always good to end your season with a win," said Head Coach Mark Nore. "I'm proud of how hard our girls played all season, this is a great way for our two seniors Kristi Ryan and Bayley Chevron to end their college careers with a win."
The Yellow Jackets offense struggled shooting the ball, making 30 % (20-66) of their shots from the floor and 29% (8-28) from behind the three point line, but were able to come away with the 58-40 win. As a team the Yellow Jackets hauled in 31 rebounds and dished out 17 assists and stole the ball 17 times, but committed 13 turnovers.
Black Hills State was led by senior Kristi Ryan who finished the game with 15 points, Ryan shot 44% (4-9) from behind the arc and 75% (3-4) from the free throw line and hauled in two rebounds. Freshman Chelsey Beigler was the only other Yellow Jacket to net double digit points, she finished the contest with 12 points while shooting 50% (4-8) from the floor, Beigler also recorded three steels. Senior Bayley Chevron finished the contest with nine points, nine assists, four steals and two rebounds to help Black Hills State to the 58-40 win.
Prior to their game the Yellow Jackets helped with a community service project where the Black Hills State players and coaches donated their time to help a shelter that houses single mothers and their children in a less fortunate part of San Jose, Costa Rica.
