Black Hills State Volleyball Signs Danielle Torpey

Spearfish, S.D. – Yellow Jacket head volleyball coach Sally Nichols announced on Wednesday the addition of Danielle "Dani" Torpey to the fall roster. Torpey is one of six new faces that will be joining the Black Hills State volleyball program from the 2012 recruiting class.

Torpey is a 6-foot utility hitter that will become part of the Black Hills State volleyball squad as she joins the Yellow Jackets from Rock Springs High School. Torpey is a four sport athlete, competing in basketball, track and softball, as well as volleyball. Torpey is a three-year letter winner and a two-time selection for Wyoming 4A All-State honors in 2010 and 2011 in the sport of volleyball. Torpey helped lead her team to a second place finish in the Wyoming State Tournament in 2010.

"Dani has been a standout Wyoming high school player for Rock Springs for the past three years," said Nichols. "I have had the privilege of watching her grow into a formidable volleyball player. Dani has the tenacity and hunger to compete at the next level. The characteristic that stands out the most to me is that as her level of competition increases she takes the challenge head on and rises to the occasion, playing her best volleyball against the highest level of competition."

Torpey was selected as the High Performance Player for the Intermountain Volleyball Region (IVR) in the summer prior to entering her senior season. Torpey was selected as the Captain of the 2011 IVR Youth team where her team competed against all-star teams from New Zealand, Dominican Republic, and Chile. Torpey was nominated for Conference Player of the Year in her senior season and was recognized with the individual Good Sportsmanship Award by the Wyoming High School Activities Association in both 2010 and 2011.

Torpey is also very involved within her high school as the Senior Class President and Secretary of the Interact Club. Torpey is currently undecided on which major she will pursue during her years at Black Hills State.
