Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State women's basketball team lost to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks 80-71 at the Donald E. Young Center on Saturday night.
The Yellow Jackets played well to start the game, matching the Skyhawks shot for shot for much of the first half. Chelsey Biegler was a force for the offense, scoring 18 points in the first 20 minutes of play, including the first seven points for the Jackets. The game was tied 20-20 with just over five minutes left in the half before Fort Lewis stretched their lead to 38-32 going into intermission.
The Jackets struggled coming out of halftime, allowing a 17-4 run by the Skyhawks to start the second period. A late surge saw the Jackets close the gap to just seven with a minute to play, but it was too little too late for Black Hills State. The Skyhawks defeated the Jackets 80-71.
Biegler had another outstanding game for Black Hills State, scoring a game-high 31 points to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Calli Bechtel chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Logan Cowan and Kylee Lamb added eight and seven points, respectively.
The Skyhawks were led by Ashley Kuchar who scored 24 points, including six three pointers.
The Jackets travel to Chadron, Neb. to take on RMAC rival Chadron State this Saturday, January 12th.
