Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women sweep final road trip, win at RMAC's second-place UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Chelsey Biegler led the way with a 21-point performance and Dakota Barrie put up a season-high 16 points as the Yellow Jackets were perfect on the weekend after taking the victory on Saturday night over UC-Colorado Springs (18-6, 15-5 RMAC), 62-54.

Bielger's high-scoring season continued as she shot 7-of-13 from the field with one three-pointer and was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.  Her balanced play continued with five rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals.

Biegler now is averaging 17.2 points per game on the season, keeping her third in the RMAC in scoring, only being Alyssa Lopez (17.4) of New Mexico Highlands and Kelsey Sigl of Colo-Mesa (18.6).

Barrie was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field with a three-pointer and kept her intense defensive play by adding five defensive rebounds, three steals and one block on the night.  The only shot Barrie missed all night was one free-throw while finishing 7-of-8 behind the charity stripe.

In their first meeting, UCCS took down the Jackets by 14 points (66-52) that saw the Cougars out rebound BHSU 40-27.  However, it was a different story on Saturday night as the Jackets returned the favor by pulling down 35 rebounds by the final buzzer (25 defensive, 10 offensive).

BHSU had 30 points in the paint compared to just six by UCCS as the Jackets' largest lead of the night extended to 13 points in the second half, ultimately winning the half by nine points, 39-30.  Second chance points also proved to be a difference with BHSU tallying 13 versus just five from the Cougars.

BHSU shot a solid 44-percent from the field on 22-of-50 shooting, while going 14-of-17 from the free-throw line - good for 82.4 percent.

Stingy defense has seemed to be the difference during the three-game win streak as the Jackets have totaled 26 steals during the streak, good for an average of almost nine per game.

BHSU held UCCS to 34.5 percent shooting while going 20-of-58 from the field with only eight points scored in the paint as their largest lead of the night was just six points.

The Yellow Jackets (11-14, 10-11 RMAC) are now riding a three-game win streak, which is their longest such streak of the season.  They now sit in the eighth place slot of the RMAC with one home game remaining.

Be sure to come out and support your Yellow Jackets on Senior Night on their last game vs. rival Chadron St. (5-20, 5-16 RMAC), on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 5:30 pm MT at the Young Center.
