SPEARFISH, S.D. – After last week's SDSU Jackrabbit Stampede where the Black Hills State University women's rodeo team walked away victorious as the men finished with a strong third-place performance, both teams prepare for a weekend in the comfort of their own backyard as they host the 2013 Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede.
The team's performances will be held at the Seven Down Arena, located just outside of Spearfish, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. MT and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. MT.
Head coach, Glen Lammers, pointed to how the home environment can help his team succeed this weekend.
"We need to keep the momentum going with the women's team leading the ranks as we look to grab a win for our men," Lammers said. "Staying on the offense is important; at the same time we should be able to relax in front of our home fans this weekend due to all of their support."
The women currently lead the standings in the Great Plains region, while the men sit in fourth overall. Both are working towards their goal of landing in the top-two in order to move onto the College National Finals Rodeo in June.
Lammers also made it a point to speak to how the women must stay consistent in order to peak at the right time as they delve deeper into the spring season. He also stressed the importance of the men's team in their continued development to continue strong performances.
"The guys need to keep competing, we want to get the wins in order to rack up more points and move up in the rankings…we ultimately want them to perform at their highest potential and we know they are more than capable," Lammers said.
Other teams that are expected to compete over the weekend include North Dakota State, South Dakota State, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Mitchell Tech Institute, Iowa Central CC, Hastings College, and Northern State University.
Saturday night will be "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" night; a fundraiser where all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of local cancer patients. Pink t-shirts will be on sale at the event with 100% of the proceeds going to support local cancer patients in the greater Spearfish area.
The Seven Down Arena address is 6625 Centennial Road in Spearfish. For more information about the weekend performances, including admission prices, CLICK HERE.
