Yellow Jacket women sting rival Chadron State, 89-45

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team handled their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival, the Chadron State College Eagles, on Thursday night by a score of 89-45. The victory moves the Jackets to 7-2 in RMAC play and 8-4 overall.

All 11 Yellow Jackets who dressed scored in the dominating win as they were led by senior, Calli Bechtel, who shot 70-percent on the night while going 7-of-10 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arch.

Junior, Chelsey Biegler, had 16 points and five rebounds that included three more 3-pointers as redshirt freshman, Courtney Patterson, had 14 points off the bench.  The bench totaled an impressive 40 points on the night.

The Jackets were quick to extend their lead early on in the first half as they jumped out to a 46-23 lead by halftime.  Much of their success was started by solid rebounding the entire game as they out rebounded the Eagles, 43-27.  BHSU also had 23 assists as a team, led by true freshman Taylor Trohkimoinen who had six.

The Jacket defense remained aggressive all 40 minutes as they forced the Eagles to 18 turnovers and finished with 11 steals. CSC shot 33.3-percent on 18-of-54 shooting (26-pct in 2nd half).

The Eagles were led by one of the top scorers in the RMAC from a season ago in Kattie Ranta, who had 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting and six rebounds.  The only other player to score in double figures for CSC was Kayli Rageth with 13.

The Yellow Jackets shot 52.3-percent from the field (34-65 FG) and nearly 53-percent from 3-point land after going 9-of-17.  BHSU went 12-of-16 on free throws (75%) as CSC made five free throws on nine attempts.

The next game will come versus non-conference opponent, South Dakota School of Mines, on Saturday night from the Rushmore Civic Center in Rapid City, S.D. at 5 p.m.
