SPEARFISH, S.D. – In the final rodeo of the fall season, the Black Hills State University rodeo team looks to close out on a high note at the Bison Stampede hosted by North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota.
The rodeo will pit the Great Plains Region squads against each other for the final time in 2014 as the winter break approaches before the season resumes in April 2015.
The Yellow Jackets men's team currently ranks in second place in the region while the women's team sits in third place.
"Going into half time (in reference to the break in the season) we need to be aggressive," head coach Glen Lammers said. "That is our plan, to go in and finish strong.
"We made slight adjustments but not anything major as we go into the final fall rodeo."
Currently, Tate Tybo is ranked second in the men's all-around and owns the top spot in bull riding with 270 points. Wyatt Treeby holds the top spot in team roping with 340 points.
Katie Lensegrav is currently ranked third in the barrel racing with 300 points. She also competes in breakaway roping and goat tying and Lammers is hoping to see her in the all-around rankings soon.
"She is a high-level competitor," Lammers said. "She is able to find a way if one event doesn't go her way to put all of her effort into a high finish in another event."
The Bison Stampede begins Friday with a slack before the long-go Friday night. Saturday will continue with the long-go and finishes up with the short-go that night.
