WBB: Yellow Jackets Rebound for 75-64 Victory

GOLDEN, Colo. – In two different halves, the Black Hills State University women's basketball team had two different players step up big en route to a 75-64 victory over Colorado School of Mines. In the first half Bailey Kusser went 4-of-4 from long range while Gabby Haefs hit three 3-pointers of her own in the second half.

Down 54-52 Dakota Barrie started a 10-0 Yellow Jacket run that also had two-straight 3-point baskets from Haefs. It was a layup from Logan Cowan that gave the Yellow Jackets an eight point lead with 5:01 remaining in the game.

After Laura Tyree sank a shot in the paint to end the 10-0 run, the Yellow Jackets continued to roll and opened a 13-point lead, the largest in the game, on a Chelsey Biegler long-range shot.

Biegler proceeded to score the final seven points for the Yellow Jackets as the Green and Gold bounced back from a loss on Friday night to improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Colorado Mines falls to 6-4, 1-3.

In the opening stanza, with the Yellow Jackets down 12-4 it was Kusser that hit three-straight 3-point baskets to knot the game at 13-13 as the two squads tied or traded the lead six different times.

Haefs scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Yellow Jackets while Kusser had 14 and Biegler 12. Led by Haefs and Kusser, the Yellow Jacket bench dominated the game with 48 points while the CSM bench scored just two points. Courtney Martin led the Orediggers with 20 points.

Logan Cowan grabbed a game-best nine rebounds while Dakota Barrie had a solid all-around game with eight assists, seven points and four rebounds. Barrie's eight assists were a game-high and part of 22 for the Green and Gold against just 12 turnovers.

The Yellow Jackets close out the 2014 calendar year at Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday and at Regis University Saturday next week.
