No. 2 CMU edges Yellow Jackets late, 86-82

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team gave the nation's 2nd-ranked, Colorado Mesa University, all they can handle on Friday night from the Young Center.

After a Chelsey Bielger 3-pointer tied the game at 69-69 with just 4:21 remaining, it was CMU guard, Sharaya Selsor, who hit key shots late on way to 35 points (9-13 FG, 10-12 FT) as her team took the victory in the closing two minutes, 86-82.

The Yellow Jackets largest lead of the night came after a Taylor Trokimoinen 3-point shot to make it 24-19 Jackets with just less than 10 minutes left in the first half.  CMU battled back to take just a 1-point lead at the half, 37-36.

Biegler finished the game with a team-high 25 points, after setting a new career-high last weekend with 40 points versus Regis.  Biegler shot 7-of-11 from the field and had two steals.

BHSU senior forward, Calli Bechtel, led a trio of players who scored in double figures as she finished with 11 points and five rebounds.  Junior guards, Dakota Barrie and Cassidy Kotelman, each had 10 points and combined for five rebounds and four steals.

As a team, CMU shot 54-percent (27-50 FG) as the Jackets went 26-of-49 from the field, good for 53.1-percent.  The Lady Mavericks also had a slight advantage on the glass as they outrebounded the Jackets 27 to 21.

BHSU was almost perfect from the free-throw line after missing just one time, going 21-of-22 as a team (95.5-pct).

Tomorrow night, Feb. 8, the Jackets (10-10, 9-7 RMAC) will host Western State Colorado University (5-15, 5-10 RMAC) at 5:30 p.m. from the Young Center.
