BOZEMAN, Mont. – Playing an NCAA Division I opponent for the first time since 2012, the Black Hills State University fell 57-10 Saturday night in the opening game of the 2014 football season.
Ranked No. 20 in the Football Championship Subdivision, Montana State showed their strength and speed while racking up 637 offensive yards, led by 176 yards rushing and three touchdowns from quarterback Dakota Prukop.
The Yellow Jackets had 238 yards of total offense as Ward Anderson threw for 132 yards. Freshman Phydell Paris rushed for 81 of the Yellow Jackets 106 yards on the ground including a touchdown of 49 yards.
The Bobcats (1-1) jumped out to a 25-0 lead before true freshman Diego Carstens notched a 39-yard field goal for the Yellow Jackets.
After Prukop ran for his third touchdown of the game, Paris showed what the Yellow Jackets are hoping to see throughout the season with a 49-yard run for the Green and Gold's lone touchdown.
Paris swept to the right before cutting back to the left at the line of scrimmage and scampered 49 yards nearly untouched to give Black Hills State their first touchdown of the season.
The Yellow Jackets make their home debut on Saturday against the South Dakota School of Mines. The Battle for the Homestake Trophy is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
