SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University softball team returned to the Yellow Jacket Softball Field Friday hosting Chadron State with the first two games of a four-game series, falling 6-2 and 12-0.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 6-24 overall and 6-19 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the RMAC's third place team, the Eagles, improve to 23-15-1 overall and 16-9 in the loop.
Game One: Chadron State 6 Black Hills State 2
Chadron State jumped out to a 6-0 lead behind a pair of Zoe Humphries home runs. Black Hills State tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning as Lauren Lesniak smacked a grounder into third base, which was an error, scoring Katelyn Odle and Alex Wiley.
However, Taylor Hall held the Green and Gold to just four hits while striking out six to pick up her 12th victory on the season. Wiley pitched the complete game for the Yellow Jackets giving up the six runs.
Game Two: Chadron State 12 Black Hills State 0 (5 innings)
Cierra Cosslett held the Yellow Jackets to two hits while the Eagles scored three runs in the first and seven runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
The two hits for the Yellow Jackets came off the bats of Wiley and Odle.
The Yellow Jackets and Eagles tangle in the final two games Saturday which is dubbed a Black Hills Pioneer Green Out along with the tailgate tent set up at 11:30 a.m. Game one is scheduled for noon.
