WBB: BHSU Sweeps Weekend Defeating ASU 68-48

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team swept the weekend defeating Adams State on Saturday evening 68-48.

The Yellow Jackets came out hot going on a quick 5-0 run after winning the tip off. The run started with a quick shot from Keely Bertram from downtown followed by a layup by Cheyanne Balster. The Grizzlies stopped the run off a free throw shot by DeShea Wilkes to put ASU on the board.

Cydney McHenry followed up the free throw shot by Wilkes with another free throw shot to give ASU its second point. Abby Switzer answered to increase the Yellow Jacket lead by six with a shot from downtown. Adams State tried to find its momentum as it closed the lead on the Yellow Jackets going on a 5-0 run starting with a three-pointer by Lauren McDonald followed by Karleigh Cooley going 2-for-2 at the line to bring the score within one at 8-7.

The Yellow Jackets went on an 8-0 starting with Switzer getting dumped a pass at the top of arc from Gabby Doxtator to increase the lead to 11-7. Rachel Erickson followed that up with a three-point play scoring a layup and the and-one from the line. Bertram was then dumped a pass by Gabby Doxtator for a jumper to increase the Yellow Jacket lead to 16-7 and ASU was just unable to find momentum as the Green and Gold led 33-19 at the intermission.

The Green and Gold shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the field, 30 percent (6-of-20) from downtown, and 52.4 percent (22-of-42) from the line. BHSU outscored ASU 34 to 19 off the bench.

Kassidy Scott led the Yellow Jackets offense with 15 points while Switzer scored 13.

Switzer led the defense with five rebounds while Taylor Trohkimoinen grabbed four.

The Yellow Jackets improve to 6-10 on the season and 6-6 in the conference while Adams State falls to 1-14 on the season and 0-12 in conference.
