Women's basketball hits the road to play Grizzlies, Skyhawks

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team will travel to Colorado for further conference play.  The Green and Gold will take on Adams State on December 15, in Alamosa, Colo., before facing Fort Lewis on December 16, in Durango, Colo.  Game time for Saturday night's game is set for 5:30 p.m., while Sunday's action will be at 3:30 p.m.

THE GAME – Adams State Grizzlies

» The Yellow Jackets and Grizzlies meet for the first time on the hardwood when they play this weekend. The Green and Gold are tied second in the league with MSU Denver and UCCS. Last season, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Grizzlies 71-53.

» Adams State is 1-4 (1-2 RMAC), after falling to CSU-Pueblo, 70-53, in the second week of conference play. 

»The Grizzlies average 64.4 ppg, which is ninth in the RMAC.   Stephanie Ruiz leads Adams State with 18.6 points per game.  Ruiz is the only player for the Grizzlies, averaging double-figure scoring.  Ki'asha Harris brings down 7.4 rebounds per game, which lands her seventh in the conference.  Brooke Neal follows with 7.0 boards, which is 10th in the RMAC.  As a team, the Grizzlies are first in the conference free throw percentage (78.5), and first in defensive rebounds per game (29.0). 

THE GAME – Fort Lewis Skyhawks

» The Yellow Jackets and Skyhawks will meet for the first time on the court this season. Last season, BHSU upset No. 13 Fort Lewis, 53-48, before defeating the Skyhawks, 59-56, in the RMAC Tournament.

» Dixie State is 4-4 (1-2 RMAC), after falling, 66-62, in overtime to New Mexico Highlands.  

»Fort Lewis averages 73.8 points per game, which is third in conference.  The Skyhawks carry three double-figure scoring players, led by Alyssa Yocky with 13.5 ppg.  Yocky leads Fort Lewis with 7.6 rebounds per game. She is tied fourth in the RMAC in rebounds and 13th in scoring.   As a team, Fort Lewis is second in the league in assists per game (15.3) and steals per game (10.9).

THE COACHES

» Black Hills State University head coach Mark Nore enters his 17th season with the Yellow Jackets and owns a 292-184 record. He is the all-time wins leader for the Yellow Jacket basketball team.

»Jaime Green is in her first season as Adams States head coach, after being hired this past April.  Before joining the Grizzlies, Green was the head coach for DII Newman University.  In just three years, she took Newman to its first NCAA Tournament appearance.

» Jason Flores is in his seventh season as the head coach at Fort Lewis.  Last season, Flores recorded his 100th win and has a 114-64 overall record.

Julia Seamans has averaged 3.9 assists per game this season. That totals for sixth in the conference. The senior's assist to turnover ratio of 2.1 is fourth in the RMAC, and 45th in the nation.

The Yellow Jackets sit at No. 18 in the WBCA National Poll. BHSU is the only RMAC team to appear in the rankings.
