WBB: Yellow Jackets clinch home playoff game with win at Regis

DENVER, Colo. – The Black Hills State women's basketball team ran past Regis, 69-53, in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. The victory clinched a home game in the first round of the RMAC tournament.  

Lyndzi Rich had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets (22-6, 16-6 RMAC). Danielle Noble chipped in 11 points.

With the Yellow Jackets holding a one-point lead, 17-16, after the first quarter, the Green and Gold kicked it into high gear, outscoring the Rangers (15-12, 14-8 RMAC) 17-8 in the second period. BHSU held Regis scoreless in the final 2:16 of the half.

BHSU used the third quarter to push the lead out to as many as 18 points, and took a 16-point lead, 51-35, into the final quarter. While each team each scored 18 in the final period, the Yellow Jackets easily earned the victory, 69-53.

The victory gave the Yellow Jackets their 22nd win on the season, giving them their best record since the 2010-11 season, when BHSU finished the year 24-8, falling in the NAIA Quarterfinals.

The win also clinched a home game for BHSU in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. The Yellow Jackets earned the No. 3 seed, and will host Fort Lewis on Tuesday, February 27.

BHSU shot 54.3 percent from the field (25-for-46), while RU was 29.7 percent from the floor (19-for-64). The Yellow Jackets were 2-for-9 (22.2 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Rangers were 6-for-23 (26.1 percent) on three-pointers. The Green and Gold were outrebounded by Regis, 40-33.

Whitney Jacob finished with 16 points, while McKenna Bishop added 10 for the Rangesr.

The Green and Gold return home to host Fort Lewis in the first round of the RMAC Tournament on Tuesday, February 27. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m.
