GILLETTE, Wyo. – The Black Hills State University softball team fell in a doubleheader to Chadron State College on Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets (5-17, 5-9 RMAC) lost the first game, 3-2, before falling to the Eagles (10-17, 8-9 RMAC), 1-0, in the second game.

Although the Eagles got two runners on base in the first inning, the Yellow Jacket defense was able to hold them off the board. However, after stranding a runner of its own in the bottom of the first, BHSU allowed one run in the second.
Chadron State added a run in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a leadoff walk, and plated one more in the sixth to lead, 3-0.
Down to their last chance, the Yellow Jackets led off the bottom of the seventh with
Maddie London getting hit by a pitch. In the ensuing at bat,
Maddi Fidler came to the plate and blasted a line drive home run over the center field fence to bring BHSU within one, 3-2. Although the Green and Gold got a runner to second base, they could not bring around any more runs, and ultimately fell.
Kindall Bethke, Fidler, and
Samantha Schoen each recorded a hit in the game, with Fidler picking up two runs batted in.
Melissa Gellermann (3-8) took the loss in the circle. She allowed three runs in 7.0 innings, while striking out eight. Â
CSC 1, BHSU 0
The Eagles got on the board early, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first inning. The rest of game two was a pitcher's duel, with each team recorded four hits in the game. Â
The Yellow Jackets got two runners on in the second, sixth, and seventh innings, but were unable to come up with the timely hit to plate any runs.

Brittany Henricksen had hits in the game.
Alex Wiley (2-6) took the loss, allowing one run (zero earned) in 7.0 innings of work. She struck out two while giving up four hits.
The Green and Gold will play another doubleheader with Chadron State in Gillette, Wyoming, on Saturday, March 24. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
