SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams take to the road this weekend to compete in the Chadron State College Open in Chadron, Nebraska. Field events will begin at 10 a.m., while running events are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. Competition this weekend is shaping up to be stout, as conference foes MSU Denver and Colorado School of Mines are scheduled to compete.
"We are looking forward to another opportunity to compete this weekend," said head track and field coach Seth Mischke. "We've been able to get in some good training this season and the competition this weekend will be a good test for us."
Although the season is still early, the Green and Gold have some top conference and national performances. At the national level, sophomore Jordyn Huneke is seventh with her mark of 12' 3.5" in the pole vault; that vault is currently number one in the RMAC. Senior Allan McDonell is sitting at 13th in the high jump after clearing 6' 9" last weekend; that jump is also second best in the RMAC this season.
In the RMAC, junior Tristian Hepp is ranked third in the 200 meters and fifth in the high jump. Junior Taylor Hepp is fourth in the 400 meters. Junior Jordan Theisen is sitting fourth in the 800 meters and sixth in the mile, while senior Jonah Theisen is currently eighth in the mile and fifth in 3000 meters. Senior Levi Fried is also on the 800 and mile lists, at 10th and ninth, respectively. Also on the 3000 list is senior Nate Fredrick at fourth, and sophomore Matt Parker at seventh. Senior Seth Kovar is eighth in the 60 meter hurdles, while sophomore Hoyt Nicholas is ninth in the weight throw.
Behind Huneke in the pole vault is sophomore Whitney Scott at sixth and senior Alexandra Richards in 10th in the RMAC. Richards is also sixth in the high jump and ninth in the shot put. Freshman Kyla Sawvell and sophomore Maddi Fidler are on the list in the shot put and weight throw at ninth and fourth, and eight and ninth, respectively. In the 800 meters, senior Cailey Roth and freshmen Ruby Lindquist, and Erica Dykstra are fourth, fifth, and seventh. Dykstra is also 10th in the mile, while junior Abbie Fredrick is sixth. In the 3000 meters, sophomore Xiomara Robinson is ninth. In the 200 meter dash, senior Shayna Soderstrom is eighth, while junior Zoe Langseth is eighth in the 400 meters.
