GOLDEN, Colo. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team fell to Colorado School of Mines, 67-55, on Saturday night.
Julia Seamans led Black Hills State (10-5, 6-5 RMAC) with 13 points, while
Morgan Ham had 11. Freshman
Morgan Koepsell brought down seven boards to lead the Yellow Jackets.
Colorado School of Mines (10-6, 7-4 RMAC) opened the game with a 9-0 run, before a layup by Koepsell broke the Orediggers' rhythm. The Yellow Jackets collected their own successful run to bring the game within two points, with the score in favor of the Orediggers. Mines advanced their lead, pushing ahead of the Green and Gold, 35-27, at the half.
The Orediggers led for most of the third quarter, taking a 44-39 lead into the final quarter. Although a three-pointer by
Racquel Wientjes pulled BHSU within two points of Mines, the Orediggers used a 14-2 run to open up a 58-44 advantage. The Yellow Jackets were unable to claw back any closer, as the Orediggers took the win.
For the Orediggers, Denali Pinto led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Nicole Archambeau had 13 points.
Colorado School of Mines shot 45.7 percent from the field (21-for-46), while BHSU was 36.8 percent (21-for-57) from the floor. The Orediggers were 6-for-18 (33.3 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Yellow Jackets were 5-for-23 (21.7 percent). Mines was 70.4 percent from the charity stripe (19-for-27), while BHSU was 44.4 percent (8-for-18). The Orediggers outrebounded the Green and Gold, 41-30.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action to host New Mexico Highlands and CSU-Pueblo, on January 25 and 26, to tip off a four-game home stand. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. against the Cowgirls on Friday night, and at 5 p.m. against the Thunderwolves on Saturday.
