CHADRON, Neb. – The Black Hills State University indoor track and field teams competed at the Chadron State College Open Sunday, running on their tight 180 meter track. Junior
Tristan Hepp high jumped six feet and nine inches to join McDonnell as a provisional qualifier for the National Championship. McDonnell finished third in the high jump.
"The team stepped up today against some strong competition," said head track and field Coach
Seth Mischke. "I saw a lot of good things, but also some areas to work on. It will be great to use this momentum as we head further into the season."
Freshman
Breanne Fuller had quite the day in the sprints, as she won the 60m dash in 8.05 seconds and took second in the 200 in 27.20 seconds. Teammate, senior
Shayna Soderstrom, was right behind in the 60m dash in 8.06 seconds to take second. Meanwhile, junior
Janae Bjorgum took third in the 200m dash. Junior
Zoe Langseth captured third in the 400 meter dash.
The 800 meters saw junior
Abbie Fredrick winning in 2:21.38, while freshman
Erica Dykstra finished in third.
The Yellow Jackets went one-two in the mile, with senior
Cailey Roth winning in 5:24.48, while sophomore
Xiomara Robinson took second.
Nicole Allerdings was third in the 3000m behind two cross country foes from Metro State, and senior
Tori Moore finished in fourth.
The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Roth, Soderstrom, Fredrick, and Langseth won in 4:06.65.
In the field events, sophomores
Jordyn Huneke and
Whitney Scott took first and second, respectively in the pole vault. Huneke vaulted 12' 01.50" just shy of her school record set a week ago. Senior
Alexandra Richards took first in the high jump, clearing 5 feet three inches.
Kyla Sawvell was third in the shot put with a toss of 39' 09.25".
On the men's side,
Taylor Hepp was second in the 400 meter dash. Seniors
Levi Fried and
Keegan Her Many Horses took second and third in the 800 meters, running 1:58.48 and 1:58.65, respectively.
Junior
Jordan Theisen won the mile in 4:19.84.
In the 3000m run, junior
Jonah Theisen smashed the meet record to win in 8:37.02 in a thrilling sprint to the finish.
The 4x400 meter team of Olsen, Hills,
Tristan Hepp, and
Taylor Hepp ran to second place.
At this time, results have not been reported to the Track and Field Results Report System (TFRRS) and times have not yet been adjusted for altitude or track size. Some of these marks may hit the provisionally qualifying standard for the National Championship.
