SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University indoor track and field cross country teams dominated the competition at the Dave Little Alumni Mile on Friday and Saturday. For the 27th time, alumni of the Yellow Jackets participated in a special event during the meet, running and walking a mile.

On the women's side, BHSU won nine events. Shayna Soderstrom won both the 60-meter dash (7.95) and the 200-meter dash (25.81). Janae Bjorgum and Julete Goehring finished second and third, respectively, in the 200. Yellow Jackets took the top three spots in the 800 meter run, led by Cailey Roth in 2:20.18. Abbie Fredrick was just behind in second, while Taylor Lundquist was third. In the mile run, Erica Dykstra was just edged out, and finished second in 5:29.78.

Meanwhile, in the women's 5,000 meters, BHSU runners took first through fifth. Tori Moore won the event in 18:36.02, followed by Nicole Davis and Xiomara Robinson. Savannah Davis and Nicole Allerdings were fourth and fifth, respectively. Yellow Jackets also took the podium positions in the 60-meter hurdles. Brittney Marosok was first (9.45), followed by Julette Goehring and Katie Campbell.

The Green and Gold took first in both relay races, as well. The 4x400-meter relay team made up of Bjorgum, Breanne Fuller, Marosok, and Zoe Langseth finished over two seconds faster than the Dickinson State team which was second. In the distance medley relay, Roth, Langseth, Dykstra, and Abbie Fredrick made up the first place team.

In field events, Alexandra Richards won the high jump, leaping 1.55m (5-01.0), while BJorgum was first in the long jump (4.97m/16-3.75). Jordyn Huneke and Hannah Hendrick were second and third, respectively, in the pole vault. Kyla Sawvell was second in the shot put, and third in the weight throw, while Maddi Fidler was fourth in the weight throw.

Overall the Green and Gold women finished with 244.5 points to win the meet by over 100 points.

On the men's side, Yellow Jackets took first in seven events. Tristan Hepp won the 200-meter dash in 22.59 seconds. Taylor Hepp was second in the event. Tristan Hepp was also third in the 60-meter dash, and was a member of the 4x400 relay team which took first. Joining Hepp in the relay win was Taylor Hepp, Ryan Olsen, and Seth Hills. In the 60-meter hurdles, Seth Kovar was second, while Olsen was fourth.

In the 800 meters, Levi Fried took first, just edging out teammate Jordan Theisen. Meanwhile, Jake Iverson won the mile run in 4:22.91, while Keith Osowski was third in the event. Jonah Theisen won the 5,000 meter run in a commanding way, finishing almost four seconds faster than second place. Nathan Fredrick and Matthew Parker were third and fourth, respectively. The Yellow Jacket distance medley relay team made up of Jordan Theisen, Taylor Hepp, Levi Fried, and Jonah Theisen took first in 10:20.17.

In field events, Yellow Jackets finished one-two in the high jump. Allan McDonnell was first (2.0m/6-6.75), while Drazen Moratzka was second (1.88m/6-2.0). McDonnell was also second in the long jump, while Hoyt Nicholas was second in the shot put, and fourth in the weight throw.

Overall, the BHSU men finished with 193 points to win the Alumni Mile.

Black Hills State will next compete at the SDSU Open on February 8-9.
