FB: Yellow Jackets Travel to take on Colorado Mesa

A Tough Loss: The Green and Gold are coming off a tough loss and a close game to New Mexico Highlands. The final score ended up being 17-13 last Saturday afternoon. Yellow Jacket Sean Dorney made a 28-yard field goal with 5:20 left in the game but the Cowboys answered with a 34-yard field goal, putting N.M. Highlands ahead. Chance Eben had 173 passing yards, and Payten Gilmore had 68 rushing yards. Overall, the Green and Gold lost in rushing yards, 92 to N.M. Highland's 288 but had 173 passing yards compared to the Cowboys' 116 yards. This Saturday on Oct. 26, the Jackets travel to Grand Junction to take on the Colorado Mesa Mavericks. Kickoff will take place at the Ralph Stocker Stadium at 1 p.m.
 
Last Meeting: Last year, the Yellow Jackets came out with the W against the Mavericks, 31-26. A strong defensive effort by BH forced five turnovers by the Mavericks. Returner Payten Gilmore had two rushing touchdowns, Bailey Rosenstrauch contributed 16 tackles and Josh Gurnaby had an interception to help lead the way. Kielar Harpham also contributed and led the way for the Jackets with 91 receiving yards.
 
About Colorado Mesa University: The Mavericks are coming off a 48-22 loss against #15th ranked CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Hayden Bollinger threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to senior Peter Anderson with 5:50 left, as well as getting the field goal, but the Mavericks came up short. Anderson recorded three catches for a total of 83 yards for the night. On the defensive end, senior Mason Newton has been pacing the Mavericks, averaging 8 tackles per game. Versus the Thunderwolves, senior Darian Turner led with 12 tackles.
 
Series History: The Green and Gold were able to grab the win versus the Mavericks last year. Overall, Colorado Mesa leads the series between the Mavericks and the Yellow Jackets, 5-2. Before their win over the Mavericks last year, the Jackets' last win was in 2016.

Temperature: According to the 10-Day Weather forecast, Grand Junction, CO will be around 66 degrees on Saturday. It is supposed to be sunny with winds N at 5 to 10 mph.
 
GENERAL NOTEBOOK
Captains: The Green and Gold Captains are Josh Gurnaby, Payten Gilmoree, Kadim Philip, and Joe Moraga, all chosen by their teammates.
 
Recognizing the Fight: Linebacker Brett Lamb will not be on the field this season, but his Yellow Jacket brothers wear orange ribbons to support Lamb as he is fighting leukemia.
 
Experience First: BHSU has 12 returning starters from the 2018 season. Eight offensive players return, with four defensive start­ers returning, including Bailey Rosenstrauch and Josh Gurnaby. They had at least 60 tackles last season. Also, a returner is a four-time starter Payten Gilmore who has been a big piece to the Jackets defense in rushing yards.
 
Under Pressure: The Yellow Jackets curently have the third best 3rd down conversion rate in the league. They convert over 40% of the time.
 
Discipline: After being the least penalized team in 2018, BHSU upholds that standard, sitting in second for the least amount penatlities in the 2019 campaign.
 
Academic Honors: The 2018 season had 10 players earn RMAC academic honors. Returners for the 2019 squad included First Team academic honor Bailey Rosenstrauch. Returners Jake Bas­inger, Jarett Jenson, and Trig Olson earned all-RMAC Honor Roll.
 
RMAC Honors: The past season led to several Yellow Jackets earning conference honors. Returners, Jack Parks and Kielar Harpham were named All-RMAC Honorable Mention.
