Spearfish, SD – The Black Hills State Women's basketball team is looking to bounce back after recording two RMAC losses this past weekend. Now 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in the RMAC, the Yellow Jackets return home to host Adams State and Fort Lewis this weekend. Tip off against Adams is scheduled for 5:30pm this Friday while action begins 4:00pm against Fort Lewis on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets come into the weekend with the fourth best defense in the league, allowing only 58.8 points per game. Their defense is breaking up the three point attempts, allowing only 27 percent of shots to connect, currently the second best in the league. BHSU is being led by
Racquel Wientjes who is the third best shooter in the RMAC. She is averaging 16.8 ppg and is best from the field where she is averaging 48 percent.
"We are excited to be home this week and continue to grow as a team," said head coach
Mark Nore. "We need to definitely play with urgency on the defensive end and be a little more loose on the offensive side of the ball."
Adams State enters the weekend 1-7 on the season and 1-1 in the RMAC. They are coming off their first win of the season against New Mexico Highlands. Laura Gutierrez is the Grizzlies top scorer, averaging 9.4 points a game. Since 2013, the Yellow Jackets lead the series 7 to 0. They last meet in Alamosa a year ago with the Green and Gold taking a 76-51 victory.
Fort Lewis hasn't lost since their first weekend of play and are currently 6-1 on the season and are 2-0 in the RMAC. Jordan Vasquez is the Skyhawks top scorer averaging 10.7 points a game. The Yellow Jackets lead the series 7-1 since 2013. The two teams clashed last year in Durango, CO with the Yellow Jackets emerging victorious 65-55.
After this weekend, the Green and Gold will enjoy a solid block of practice over the holiday season. They won't return to action until Friday, January third, as they continue their homestand against Western Colorado University.
