WBB: Yellow Jackets Struggle to Connect with the Net

Salt Lake City, UT – A tough third quarter for the Yellow Jackets proved to be too much to overcome as the Westminster Griffins defeated the Black Hills State University Women's basketball team 69-53. The Yellow Jackets fall to 4-3 on the season and 1-1 in the RMAC.

Game play was steady and competitive through the first half. Westminster held the lead much of the first quarter, but the Yellow Jackets were able to outscore the Griffins 18-17 in the first ten minutes of play. The second quarter was much of the same with both teams flipping the lead. Westminster went into half with a slight 32-31 advantage.

The third quarter was disastrous, The Griffins were shooting hot from the field and the Yellow Jackets couldn't connect with the net. Westminster put up 25 points to the Yellow Jackets six. Despite outscoring the Griffins 16-12 in the fourth quarter, the Green and Gold could not overcome their deficient and ultimately fell 53-69.

Racquel Wientjes once again lead BHSU. She posted 22 points shooting 50 percent from the field, 43 percent from beyond the arc, and 62 percent from the charity stripe. She also led the team in rebounds with five.

On the night, the Yellow Jackets only connected 30 percent of their shots, making 18 of 61 from the field. It was the same story from beyond the arc as the team only posted 7 three pointers on 27 attempts. At the free throw line, the Yellow Jackets were good for 10 of 21. The team recorded 26 rebounds, 12 offensive and 14 defensive.

The Green and Gold are looking to rebound tomorrow night at Dixie State. The Trailblazers lost tonight to the Hardrockers in overtime. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
