SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams lit up the track on the first day of the Stinger Open. The men's Distance Medley Relay, consisting of seniors
Jonah Theisen and
Levi Fried and juniors
Jordan Theisen and
Tristan Hepp, ran 10:03.69. That time is the sixth fastest in school history, the fastest time ever run by a BHSU squad in the Donald E Young Center Fieldhouse, and is a NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark. That time unofficially converts down to 9:50.3 with the track size and altitude conversion, which is currently sixth in the nation. Twelve teams will make it into the National Championships.
The 5000-meter race was also contested, and the Green and Gold picked up two wins. Junior
Nicole Allerdings and redshirt freshman
Xiomara Robinson ran against the clock to take first and second, respectively. Facing a larger field, sophomore
Keith Osowski ran his first ever collegiate indoor 5k to pick up the win in an unofficial time of 15:47.
Action resumes February 16 at noon for the field events and 1:00 p.m. for the running events.
