SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated UCCS, 72-57, to complete a weekend sweep on Saturday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets sunk 15 three-pointers for a new season high.
Racquel Wientjes led the Yellow Jackets (16-10, 12-9 RMAC) with 19 points, while 
Julia Seamans totaled 12 and 
Abby Switzer added 11. 
In the first 10 seconds of the game, 
Racquel Wientjes drained a three-pointer to put the Yellow Jackets on the board.  Emily Seifert made a layup to put UCCS (13-14, 12-9 RMAC) ahead, but was immediately responded with five straight points from 
Morgan Koepsell.  With back-to-back treys, the Yellow Jackets were able to push their lead out to eight. BHSU used a 22-8 run in the second quarter to advance their lead.  A shot beyond the arc at the buzzer for 
Abby Switzer pushed the Green and Gold ahead, 48-24, at halftime.
The Mountain Lions' defense put pressure on the Green and Gold in the third quarter, limiting the Yellow Jackets to nine points to cut the margin.  UCCS used an 8-2 to bridge the gap, but the Yellow Jackets were able to hold on, eventually taking a 72-57 victory.
Madi Gaibler led the Mountain Lions with a double-double, scoring 16 points and bringing down 11 rebounds.  
BHSU shot 38.7 percent from the field (24-for-62), while UCCS shot 32.7 percent from the floor (16-for-49).  The Yellow Jackets were 15-for-32 from beyond the arc (46.9 percent), while the Mountain Lions were 6-for-17 on three-pointers (35.3 percent).  Black Hills State shot 69.2 percent from the charity stripe (9-for-13), while UCCS shot 79.2 percent (19-for24) from the free throw line.  The Green and Gold outrebounded the Mountain Lions, 43-33.
The Yellow Jackets will host South Dakota Mines to conclude the regular season action on Friday, March 1.  Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. against the Hardrockers.
