WBB: Yellow Jacket travel to CSUP, NMHU

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team sets out to take on CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands, on February 8 and 9.  The Green and Gold will have a rematch with the Thunderwolves at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Pueblo, Colo.  A special start time is set for 5 p.m. against the Cowgirls on Saturday, in Las Vegas, N.M.
 
THE GAME – CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves
»The Yellow Jackets and Thunderwolves meet for the second time this season when they meet this weekend.  In the last matchup, CSU-Pueblo defeated BHSU, 68-58, continuing a seven game win streak against the Green and Gold.
 
»The Thunderwolves moved to a 11-10 overall record (9-6 RMAC), after falling to UCCS, 67-59.  CSU-Pueblo currently ties Colorado School of Mines and UCCS in fourth, in the RMAC standings.
 
»CSU-Pueblo has three players averaging double-figure scoring, led by Jennah Knafelc with 14.3 points per game, which is sixth in the RMAC.  Following Knafelc is Khiya Adams with 12.5 ppg, while JaNaiya Davis averages 10.2.  Adams leads the Thunderwolves, averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, which ranks her seventh in the conference.  As a team, CSU-Pueblo averages 66.5 points per game, and leads the league in blocked shots with 4.4 blocks per game. 
 
THE GAME – New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls
»The Yellow Jackets and Cowgirls meet on the court for the second time this season when they play this weekend.  In the last meeting, the Green and Gold defeated New Mexico Highlands, 83-64.
 
»The Cowgirls have a 4-18 overall record (2-13 RMAC), after falling to Colorado School of Mines, 69-38.
 
»Jordyn Lewis leads New Mexico Highlands, averaging 13.7 points per game, which ranks her 10th in the conference.  Lewis also averages 2.4 three-point field goals per game. 
 
» THE COACHES
» Black Hills State University head coach Mark Nore enters his 17th season with the Yellow Jackets and owns a 298-190 record. He is the all-time wins leader for the Yellow Jacket basketball team.
 
» Curtis Loyd returns for his second season as the head coach at CSU-Pueblo, becoming the 10th head coach in the schools program.  Last season under Loyd, the Thunderwolves won both the conference regular season and tournament title in the same season for the first time in the program's history.
 
» Joseph Anders begins his third season as the New Mexico Highlands head women's basketball coach.  Prior to coaching the Cowgirls, Anders led and assisted teams that made it into two NCAA Elight Eights, five straight NCAA Tournaments, four National Invitational Tournaments, and two WBCI Tournaments.

SHARE THE ROCK
Julia Seamans has averaged 3.1 assists per game this season. That totals for ninth in the conference. The senior's assist to turnover ratio of 1.3 is fifth in the RMAC, and 130th in the nation.
 
KNOCK IT DOWN
Seamans is making 2.4 three-pointers a game to lead the Yellow Jackets, which is sixth in the conference, and 68th nationally.
 
PULL IT DOWN
Katie Messler leads the Yellow Jackets, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game, which is 12th in the RMAC.
 
TEXAS HOLD'EM
The Yellow Jackets are allowing just 62.1 points per game this year. That ranks ninth in the RMAC, and 82nd nationally.
 
ACCURACY WINS
BHSU is fifth in the conference and 116th nationally in field goal percentage, making 41.1 percent of its shots from the field.
 
NOW BOARDING
BHSU totaled a season high 21 offensive and 31 defensive rebounds against New Mexico Highlands, on Jan. 25, for a new season-high of 52 total boards.
 
NOT TODAY
The Yellow Jackets tallied a season high seven blocks against Regis, on Jan. 12.  The Green and Gold now stand in eighth in the conference with 2.5 blocks per game.

WEEKEND SWEEP
The Yellow Jackets men's and women's basketball teams went 4-0 against Adams State and Fort Lewis on the road December 16-17. This was the first time since BHSU joined the RMAC (2012-13) that the two teams swept a weekend on the road. The Green and Gold are a combined 11-3 in league play during the 2018-19 season.
