SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee recently held its Awards Night, honoring student-athletes for academics and athletics excellence.

The Male Jacket of the Year was Fraser Malcolm who helped lead the men's basketball team to a second-straight postseason appearance. Despite suffering a season-ending injury with three games to go in the regular season, the Scotland native led the Yellow Jackets in scoring, putting up 16.0 points per game. He also tallied 5.3 rebounds per game. He finished his career at BHSU with over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds, and will leave with multiple entries on the Yellow Jacket career top-10 lists.  

The Female Jacket of the Year was Nicole Allerdings. The junior from Plevna, Montana, took 32nd at the Division II Cross Country National Championship race, earning All-American honors and helping lead the Yellow Jackets to a 17th place finish at their first ever appearance at the meet.

The Schallenkamp Award, given to the female and male student-athlete with the highest GPA, was awarded to Savannah Davis and Collin Palmer.

The Mentor of the Year was awarded to Faculty Athletic Representative, Dan Durban.

The team with the highest GPA was the women's basketball squad, which has a combined 3.714 grade point average, which is a new high for any team at BHSU. Five different teams have a cumulative GPA of over 3.5.

Yellow Jacket All-Academic First and Second Teams were awarded, along with Rising Academic Stars. Overall, all Green and Gold student-athletes combined for a 3.139 GPA, an increase for the fifth-consecutive year.
