SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams competed at two last chance meets this weekend. A handful of student-athletes competed at the Oxy Invite, while some were at the Loper Last Chance Meet.
The Oxy Invite was held in California on Saturday.
Tori Moore took 10th in the 3000m steeplechase, hitting a provisional mark in 10:51.33.
Jonah Theisen, who already has an automatic time in the steeplechase, had a provisional qualifying mark in the 5000 meters (14:11.81), finishing in 10th. He is now has the eighth best time in a competitive RMAC. In the 400m hurdles,
Tristan Hepp was fifth in a provisional time of 52.75. Meanwhile, Jake Iverson took 10th place in the steeplechase, reaching a provisional mark in 9:04.40, which sits fifth on the RMAC performance list.
The Loper Last Chance in Kearney, Nebraska, was competed on Sunday.
Whitney Scott won the pole vault with a provisional mark of 3.91m (12'10.0"), while
Jordyn Huneke and
Hannah Hendrick were third and fourth, respectively. Scott's height once again broke the BHSU school record.
Kyla Sawvell was fourth in the shot put, putting up another provisional mark in the event (14.10m/46'3.25"), which is now the best mark in the conference.
Makaleb McInnis also hit a provisional mark, throwing the javelin 59.01m/193'7.00" to win the event. Â
The Yellow Jackets will soon learn whether they will qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The national meet will be held May 23-25 in Kingsville, Texas. Â
