SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University track and field teams have wrapped up their regular season after last week's RMAC championships and now turn their attention to qualifying individuals for the National Championships. The first attempt at this will be at the 94
th Annual Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D., where a contingent of athletes will be competing. Action begins on Friday morning at 9 a.m. in the field and at 4:20 p.m. on the track. Events resume Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
Looking at the national picture,
Jonah Theisen currently leads the nation in the steeplechase where he is currently the only automatic qualifier in that event. Having secured his spot in the steeple, he will focus on qualifying in another event next week. Nate Fredrick, who is currently 35
th in the 10000m race, will also rest a week as he gears up to better his position.
Tristan Hepp currently sits 20
th in the 400m hurdles and will need to run a few tenths faster to make it into nationals.
In the field,
Allan McDonnell is tied for 24
th in the high jump. The vaults squad has three on the list lead by
Hannah Hendricks at 35
th.
Jordyn Huneke and
Whitney Scott follow tied for 46
th.
Kyla Sawvell has made the list in two events and sits 39
th in shot put and 42
nd in the discus. In the Javelin,
Makaleb McInnis remains at 28
th.
The Yellow Jackets will have one more chance next week to qualify for the National Championships before finding out accepted entries.
