Spearfish, SD – The 2020 track season begins in earnest this weekend as the Black Hills State University Track and Field teams head down to Chadron State for the CSC Open. Field events begin at 10:00am with the shot put while action on the track gets underway at 11:00am with the 60m hurdles.
The Yellow Jackets haven't been in competition since the Yellow Jacket Holiday Classic on December sixth and seventh.
"I've seen some good things since the team reported back from break," said head coach
Seth Mischke. "But now it's time to see where we are really at and what we need to focus in on moving towards championship season."
The season is still getting underway but the Green and Gold already have athletes on the national lists.
Hannah Hendrick is ranked 19
th in the pole vault while
Kyla Sawvell is ranked 15
th in both the weight throw and the shot put.
Sawvells marks lead the conference currently while Hendrick is third in the RMAC. Elsewhere in the conference,
Breanne Fuller is fifth in the 200m while
Maddi Fidler is fifth in the shot put.
Zoe Langseth is seventh in the 400m. Also in seventh is Katie Cambell in the triple jump and
JoJo Sherman in the pole vault.
Seth Kovar currently sits in second in the 60m hurdles with his school record time of 8.33 seconds. In the Jumps
Allan McDonnell is fourth while Donte Garza and
Tristan Hepp are tied for eighth. Garza also has the ninth best mark in the long jump and tenth best in the triple jump. In the throws,
Hoyt Nicholas is sixth in the weight throw and eighth in the shot put.
