Women's Basketball Back From Break

Spearfish, SD – The Black Hills State University women's basketball team is back from break as they return to the Young Center this weekend. On Friday, they host Western Colorado at 5:30pm and take on Colorado Mesa on Saturday at 4:00pm.

The Yellow Jackets are 6-4 on the season and 3-2 in RMAC play. They return to action after winning a pair of RMAC games against Adams State and Fort Lewis. The Green and Gold are boasting a balanced offensive and defensive as they sit fourth in the league for both points allowed and points scored per game. The offensive is led Racquel Wientjes and Morgan Ham who are both in the top ten in the RMAC for points per game; Wientjes is posting 15.8 a game while Ham is putting up 14.9

The Mountaineers are 6-3 on the season and 4-1 in RMAC play. WCU is coming off its first loss in RMAC play as the Mountaineers fell at Colorado Mesa 36-44 on Dec. 20 in Grand Junction. The Yellow Jacket offensive will need to be hot against WCU as the Mountaineers are second in the RMAC and 13th in the country in points allowed per game (52.4). They are holding teams to just 33 percent from the field, which is third in the RMAC and eighth in the nation. Since 2012, the Yellow Jackets lead the series 8-2 last winning 59-48 a year ago.

The Mavericks are 9-2 on the season and perfect in the RMAC at 5-0. They are on a 7-0 winning streak having last defeated Western University before break 44-36. If Western's defense looked tough, Mesa's is the best in the nation and RMAC; they are only allowing 45.8 points per game and holding shooters to just 30 percent from the field. Since 2012, the Mavericks lead the Yellow Jackets 10-5 with the Green and Gold last falling 49-56 in March of 2019.

Following this weekend, the Yellow Jackets take to the road to play Colorado Christian University and Regis University.
