Black Hills State football hosts its first home game of the season Saturday, Oct. 17 at noon, taking on Colorado Mesa from Lyle Hare Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 34-17 loss in their season opener at South Dakota Mines last Saturday.
Nolan Susel led the rushing attack with 61 yards on the ground and a touchdown, while quarterback
Chance Eben threw for 103 yards and connected with
Kielar Harpham on a 12-yard touchdown pass.
Colorado Mesa comes off an overtime 10-7 victory in a home meeting against Chadron State last Saturday, ending on a game-winning field goal from Lucas Ruiz-Diaz.
Last Meeting
The last time the Yellow Jackets faced Colorado Mesa was Oct. 26 last season in which the Mavericks defeated BHSU 58-21.
Payten Gilmore found the end zone twice, once on the ground, and again through the air on a 37-yard reception. Andre Rentaria scored the other touchdown for the Yellow Jackets on a big 48-yard run in the fourth quarter. The Mavericks got out to a big lead early, leading 28-0 at the end of the first quarter and played add-on the rest of the way.
Series History
BHSU dropped last year's matchup against the Mavericks 58-21. Overall, Colorado Mesa leads the series between the two teams 6-2. The two wins in the series for the Yellow Jackets have come in 2016 and 2018.

Player of the Week
Senior kicker and punter
Jacob Parks was named RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week Tuesday, Oct. 13 for the first time in his career. Parks made a key field goal at the end of the third quarter to bring BHSU within one score.
In addition, he averaged 46.71 yards per punt on seven punts, totaling 327 yards, and booted two punts over 50 yards and two within the 20-yard line. He kicked all three of his kickoffs through the end zone for touchbacks.
