Black Hills State women's basketball will be competing in its home opener this weekend taking on Colorado Mesa Friday night at 5:30, before taking on Westminster Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets are coming off a weekend split which saw the team fall to Western Colorado 81-74 on Friday night and defeat Fort Lewis on Saturday 72-69.
Over the weekend the Yellow Jackets were led in scoring by
Morgan Ham (19 PPG),
Racquel Wientjes (16 PPG), and
Megan Engesser with (12.5 PPG). Wientjes leads the team in rebounds averaging 6.5 per game with
Katie Messler close behind averaging 6 rebounds per game.
Colorado Mesa (2-0)
The Yellow Jackets are 5-11 all-time against the Mavericks. The last time the two teams met the Mavericks were able to come out on top 65-64 in a game that came down to the last minute of regulation.
Currently Colorado Mesa sits atop the RMAC standings with a season record of 2-0 after defeating Colorado Christian (61-75) and MSU Denver (91-57) last weekend.
Westminster (0-0)
BHSU and Westminster have matched up 5 different times. BHSU holds the edge in the match-up with a 3-2 record. The last time the Yellow Jackets and Griffins met after tight contest through the first half, a third quarter slump proved to be too much to overcome for the Yellow Jackets as they fell to the Griffins 69-53 on Dec. 12, 2019.
Westminster finished the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 24-7, and 17-5 in the RMAC. The Griffins earned a spot in the RMAC Championships and lasted two rounds to round out play for the season.
