Durango, Colo. – The Yellow Jackets women's basketball team won a nail biter at Fort Lewis College 72-69 splitting their weekend series and moving to 1-1 on the season.
After an evenly matched first half which ended with the Yellow Jackets up 34-30, the Yellow Jackets were able to mount a staggering lead in the third quarter at one point amassing a 17-point lead over the Skyhawks.
However, the Skyhawks came back with a vengeance in the final quarter of the game surpassing their point deficit and tying the Yellow Jackets with just over a minute remaining in regulation.

Alyssia Martinez threw up the game winning three-point shot propelling the Yellow Jackets to a hard-fought victory over the Skyhawks.
The Yellow Jackets were led in scoring by
Megan Engesser with
Racquel Wientjes and
Morgan Ham following closely behind. Engesser lead the attack scoring 17 points amassing a total of five three pointers. Wientjes was close behind scoring 13 points with Ham totaling 11. Senior
Katie Messler lead the team in rebounds pulling down seven while both Wientjes and Engesser grabbed 6 rebounds each.
As a team the Yellow Jackets shot 25 of 66 (38%) from the field, including 11-25 (44%) from beyond the arc. At the charity stripe the team shot 69% (11-16).
The Black Hills State University women's basketball team will be back in action at home against Colorado Mesa on Friday at 5:30 and Westminster College on Saturday at 4.
