The Final Stretch

Spearfish, SD - This weekend, the Black Hills State University women's basketball team will face Metropolitan State University of Denver on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Donald E. Young Center. Saturday evening, the Yellow Jackets will recognize their seniors before their game versus Chadron State College at 4 p.m. This year's seniors are Hannah Cass, Danielle Noble and Abby Switzer.

The Yellow Jackets are currently sitting sixth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with a 11-6 conference record. They have two players averaging double-digits, Racquel Wientjes and Morgan Ham. Wientjes also leads the team in rebounding, with 6 RPG. Crucial playing time has been seen from freshman Danica Kocer and Niki Van Wyk. The past two games, the two freshman have contributed critical points to help the Jackets. Kocer averaged 9 PPG while Van Wyk averaged 10.5 PPG last weekend.

The Yellow Jackets sealed two wins last weekend over Colorado State University Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands to build momentum heading into the final regular season home games. Great team play was evident, as the team averaged 20 assists per game. They were led by juniors Racquel Wientjes and Morgan Ham, who averaged 19 PPG and 15 PPG, respectively.

Senior Abby Switzer had a solid weekend, averaging 12 points per game and 3 assists per game. The senior has played a big role on the defensive end for the Green and Gold this season. She is second on the team for rebounding, averaging 4 per game, as well as 6 PPG and 2 APG.

Winding down to the end of the season, Switzer believes the team's biggest obstacle isn't who they are playing against but making sure they collectively have the right mentality. She said,

"We need to come into these last games focused on the team as a whole and playing one game at a time," said Switzer.

MSU Denver
MSU Denver has a 9-8 conference record and are sitting ninth in the RMAC standings. They are led by Bree Wellington, who averages 10.9 PPG and Morgan Lewis, with 8.3 PPG. Lewis and Jaela Richardson lead the team in rebounding, averaging 6 RPG. The Roadrunners also lead the conference in steals, with 9.1 per game. The Yellow Jackets will be looking to level the score after a 53-62 loss earlier this season.

Chadron State
Chadron State has a 3-14 conference record. They are led by Taryn Foxen, who averages 16.4 PPG, 4 RPG and 2 APG. Jori Peters averages 8.2 PPG, 5 RPG and an impressive 4 APG. Also, freshman Jordan Morris averages 6 RPG for the Eagles. Chadron will be looking to even the series as the Yellow Jackets won 70-60 back in January.
