WBB: Yellow Jackets Look to Secure Playoff Spot


Spearfish, SD - This weekend, The Black Hills State University women's basketball team takes to the road. Friday evening, they will take on Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Yellow Jackets will be at Colorado Springs to face the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions at 5:30 p.m. These games will be pivotal for the Yellow Jacket's standings for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference playoffs. The games will be live-streamed and can be heard on Eagle Country at 95.5/96.3.
 
The Green and Gold are coming off another 1-1 weekend. Last Friday night, they took their second loss to Metropolitan State University of Denver, but got their second win against Chadron State. Currently, the Yellow Jackets sit fifth in the conference standings, with a 12-7 conference record and 15-9 overall record.
 
Last weekend, the Yellow Jackets were led by Racquel Wientjes, who averaged 11.5 points per game. Wientjes and Niki Van Wyk both averaged 4.5 rebounds per game, while Ashlee Beacom averaged over 2 assists per game. This season, the team is led by Wientjes, who averages 16.7 PPG and 5.7 RPG. She is fourth in the RMAC for PPG, has the fourth best shooting percentage from the field (44%) and the second best at the free throw line (89%). Morgan Ham averages 14.4 PPG, which is 11th in the RMAC, and 3.2 RPG, while Abby Switzer adds 6.5 PPG, 4.8 RPG and almost 2 APG.
 
 
CO School of Mines
The Orediggers are sitting second in conference standings, with a 15-4 conference record and 18-6 overall record. Denali Pinto leads the team, averaging 20.2 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 2 APG. Courtney Stanton and Liz Holter also average double-figures, while Sammy Van Sickle averages 9.6 PPG and 9.4 RPG. The Orediggers lead the conference in offensive scoring, averaging 69 PPG. They also have the second-highest field goal percentage in the league, with 36%. Back in January the Orediggers came away with a narrow victory as the Yellow Jackets fell 53-64.
 
UCCS
UCCS has a 7-12 conference record and 8-17 overall record, which places them 12th in the conference. The Mountain Lions are led by Abby Feickert, who averages 10.3 PPG and 3.9 RPG. Madi Gaibler also adds 7.7 PPG and 5.1 RPG. The team sits second in the league for offensive rebounds, averaging 13.3 per game. Earlier this season, the Yellow Jackets got a 79-62 win over UCCS.
