Colorado Springs, CO – Day two of the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships have concluded and the Black Hills State University track and field teams added another conference champion to the weekend.
Kyla Sawvell added to her day one championship in the weight throw to pick up another conference win in the Shot put. She won with a toss of 14.50m. That toss is a personal best and moves her to 17th in the country.
As a team, both the men's and women's squad took seventh place. The women scored 52 points while the men recorded 41.50 points.
"We had another solid day today," said head coach
Seth Mischke. "It was a pretty complete championship for both teams. We took care of what we were supposed tp and found a little extra along the day."
On the track,
Breanne Fuller picked up points in the both the 200m and 60m. She was fourth in the 200m in with a time of 25.48 and seventh in the 60m in 7.77. In the 400m,
Zoe Langseth snagged sixth place in 59.39. The 4X400 relay team consisting of
Mikayla Tracy,
Samantha Bates,
Abbie Fredrick, and
Zoe Langseth placed sixth in 4:03.08. That time is sixth fastest in school history.
Fredrick also placed fifth in the mile running 5:07.72.
The men's squad was led by
Tristan Hepp who was ALL-RMAC in the Heptathlon with his second place finish. His score of 5267 broke is own school record and moves him to tenth in the county.
Elsewhere in the field,
Hoyt Nicholas followed up his ALL-RMAC performance in the weight throw by taking sixth in the shot put in 14.91m. In the Jumps,
Dontae Garza was fifth in the high jump clearing 1.94m. Teammate
Drazen Moratzka cleared 1.89 to tie for 8
th.
On the track,
Jordan Theisen took fourth in the mile running 4:22.63. That time will be close to an NCAA Provo time once converted.
Seth Kovar took fifth in the 60m hurdles in 8.39 while
Taylor Hepp and
Tucker Bopp went fifth and sixth respectively in the 400m dash.
Wrapping up the meet was 4X400m of
Brian Kjerstad,
Larenzo Ebell,
Tucker Bopp, and
Taylor Hepp. They ran 3:23.53 to take sixth. That time is tenth fastest in school history.
The Green and Gold will now wait for all the meet results from around the country to come in and see where the provisional qualifiers sit on the national lists. An NCAA committee will announce next week who makes it into the NCAA D2 Indoor Championships. Without all the conference results tabulated yet,
Abbie Fredrick,
Whitney Scott,
Kyla Sawvell, and
Tristan Hepp all have a shot at making the Championship.
