Vermillion, SD – The Black Hills State University track and field teams recorded three NCAA provisionally qualifying marks at the Dakota Realty Alumni Track & Field Meet hosted by the USD Coyotes.
Tristan Hepp wrapped up day two of his heptathlon taking second in the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m run with marks of 8.45 seconds, 12' – 10", and 2:51.59. Overall, he scored 5079 points to take second behind a SDSU competitor. That mark is a huge personal best for Hepp, a new school record, and provisionally qualifies him for the National Championships. He is currently 12
th in Division 2.
Whitney Scott Improved her personal best in the pole vault clearing 12" – 08". She was the top Division 2 finisher and finished sixth behind some of the best vaulters in entire nation. Her mark remains number two all time in school history and moves her to 12
th in D2.
Hannah Hendrick also competed in the pole vault taking ninth clearing 11' - 08 ¼".
Kyla Sawvell, who competed in the weight throw last night, improved her national mark in the shot put to 46' – 04" which moves her to 24
th in the country and was good for third at the meet. While a personal best, the mark remains number four all time in school history. Competing in both the weight throw and shot put,
Maddi Fidler tossed the weight 50 feet and nine inches while pushing the shot put just over 38 feet.
On the track
Seth Kovar ran 8.4 seconds in the prelims of the 60m hurdles to make finals. Overall, he took sixth with his finals time of 8.45 seconds.
The entire squad will be back in action next weekend at the SDSU Indoor Classic, in Brookings, SD.
