Black Hills State football fell to New Mexico Highlands Saturday afternoon, 24-10 at Lyle Hare Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (4-4, 2-4 RMAC) totaled 362 yards of total offense, 179 rushing and 183 passing.
Hasaan Williams hauled in his third touchdown of the season, scoring on a 42-yard reception. He totaled 60 yards on four catches in the game.
Zechariah Rodriguez-Brown had his first career interception in the second quarter, picking off a pass in the endzone and returning it 42 yards.
Matthew Collier had his fifth 100+ yard game of the season, totaling 111 yards on 15 attempts.
On defense, Lathan Stevens led the team with 10 sacks, while
Doodles Quinones had seven, and
Cody Hooker and
Ryder Blair each had six.
Morgan Tigner registered a solo sack while Blair and
Aric Eades each had a sack assist.
Deunte Moody and
Dylon Case each broke up a pass.
Both teams were slow to start on offense, trading 3-and-outs in the opening possessions. NMHU jumped ahead 7-0 with a touchdown midway through the first quarter.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the final seconds of the first, making it a 7-3 game on a 37-yard field goal from Parks. NMHU drove down the field on their next possession, but Zec. Rodriguez-Brown halted the momentum with an interception in the endzone, returning it 42 yards.
BHSU would get into field goal range, but couldn't connect, keeping it a 7-3 game. In the closing minutes of the half, the Cowboys used a field goal to take a 10-3 lead into the locker room.
The Yellow Jackets came out of the half, capping a long drive with a 42-yard touchdown to Williams to even the game at 10-10 midway through the third.
NMHU responded with another touchdown of their own on the following drive, going ahead at 17-10.
The Cowboys would score once more down the stretch, as the game closed at 24-10.
