WAYNE, Neb. – The Black Hills State women's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 RMAC) traveled to Wayne, Nebraska to face the Wayne State Wildcats (2-1, 0-0 NSIC) in more preseason action Friday evening.

The Yellow Jackets handed the Wildcats their first loss of the season defeating Wayne State 66-55 at Rice Auditorium.

Leading the Yellow Jackets on offense was junior
Danica Kocer, who recorded nine points and two assists. Close behind Kocer were senior
Ashley Davis and Freshman
Kalla Bertram, who recorded eight points each on the night.

Morgan Hammerbeck and
Niki Van Wyk led the team in assists with four apiece.

Defensively, freshman
Morgan Hammerbeck recorded a team leading 10 rebounds with three offensive rebounds and seven defensive rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets kept with their ball hawking ways snagging 12 steals on the night with Kocer leading the charge earning credit for four steals on the night.

In the first quarter of play BHSU would sink the first basket to take a 2-0 lead over the Wildcats; however, the two teams would stay evenly matched throughout the quarter with neither team taking more than a three-point lead. Wayne State would lead the Yellow Jackets by one at the end of the first 14-13.

The Yellow Jackets would sink 4 out of 9 three pointers in the second quarter while Wayne State would not be able to make a single three in the second. This solid shooting from beyond the arc along with a handful of layups would help lead BHSU to a 32-26 lead into the break after outscoring Wayne State 19-12 in the second quarter of play.

Out of the break Wayne State would throw up two layups before BHSU would score seven unanswered points to give the Yellow Jackets an 11-point lead and force a Wildcats time out. Out of the timeout the Yellow Jackets would stay hot increasing their lead to twelve by the end of the quarter. BHSU would go into the final quarter of play with a 52-40 lead over Wayne State.

In the fourth quarter both teams would start out the quarter flashing impressive defensive fronts with the Yellow Jackets recording just two points before the four-minute mark and the Wildcats recording just three points. At that point the Yellow Jackets would record the teams largest lead of the game going up 17 points over Wayne State at 60-43. From that point the Yellow Jackets would look to run out the clock taking a 66-50 victory over the Wildcats.
