Black Hills State women's basketball is set to take on Western Colorado and Fort Lewis College in their home opener Friday, Dec 3, and Saturday, Dec 4.

The Yellow Jackets will take on the Mountaineers Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the Skyhawks Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets are fresh off a trip to Hawaii where they faced stout competition in the Malika Sports Oahu Thanksgiving Classic. BHSU fell to top ranked Hawaii Pacific University 68-55 before taking on Walsh University and falling 73-51 over Thanksgiving week.

The Mountaineers have won two of five contests in non-conference play to start out their season. Currently the Mountaineers are on a two-game losing streak after falling to Southwestern Oklahoma State University 88-54 and West Texas A&M University 62-51 last weekend to round out non-conference play.

Currently Western Colorado has a slight edge over the Yellow Jackets in field goal percentage (37.3% vs 35.5%) and 3-point percentage (32.2% vs 31.6%). However BHSU is shooting better at the charity stripe with a 69.2 free throw percentage over Western Colorado's 64.8%.
Last season the Yellow Jackets and Mountaineers faced off against the Mountaineers three times. During conference play the Yellow Jackets dropped both meetings to the Mountaineers falling 81-74 December 4, 2020, and 70-61 January 16, 2021. However, when the two teams faced off in the RMAC Tournament the Yellow Jackets walked away with the 67-62 victory and would go on to be named the 2020-21 RMAC Champions. Historically BHSU and Western Colorado have faced off 14 times with the Yellow Jackets winning 10 of those match ups and the Mountaineers winning four.

The Skyhawks have recorded one victory throughout non-conference play to start the 2021-22 season. Currently the Skyhawks are on a two-game losing streak after falling to West Texas A&M University 93-46 and Southwestern Oklahoma State University 87-71 last weekend.

Currently Fort Lewis College and BHSU have matching field goal percentages with both teams shooting 35.5% from the field while the Yellow Jackets hold a slight edge from beyond the arc with a 31.6 3-point percentage compared to the Skyhawks' 31.3%. BHSU is shooting better at the charity stripe as well with a 69.2 free throw percentage over Fort Lewis College's 59.0%.

Last season the Yellow Jackets and Skyhawks faced off just one time on December 5, 2020. In that matchup the Yellow Jackets came out on top in a close contest winning 72-69. Historically BHSU and FLC have faced off ten times with the Yellow Jackets recording victories in nine of those matchups.
