Black Hills State University women's basketball is set to face off against New Mexico Highlands and University of Colorado Colorado Springs Saturday and Sunday with a pair of afternoon games taking place at 2:00 p.m.

This weekend the Yellow Jackets had a tough road slate falling to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the RMAC as they fell to Colorado Mesa on Friday and Westminster on Saturday.

Friday brought a close game between BHSU and Colorado Mesa with the game going into overtime after being tied at 64 all at the end of regulation. The Yellow Jackets were outscored 13-7 in overtime falling to the Mavericks 77-71.

Saturday the Yellow Jackets took on a tough Westminster team and were outscored 85-49. The Griffins currently hold the #1 spot in the RMAC standings at a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

The Cowgirls are on a three-game losing streak after falling to Regis University on Saturday 76-42. The Cowgirls and Yellow Jackets have faced off 10 times in program history with the Yellow Jackets having won all ten contests.

The last time the two teams faced off was February 8, 2020. In that contest the Yellow Jackets walked away with the victory defeating the Cowgirls 85-51 in the Donald E. Young Center. Last season the Yellow Jackets and Cowgirls did not face off as the Cowgirls opted out of the season due to COVID-19Â concerns.

Currently, the Yellow Jackets hold an edge over the Cowgirls as they are shooting 35.1% from the field compared to NMHU's 32.9%, 33.5% from beyond the arc compared to 21.6%, and 67.9% from the charity stripe compared to 65.4%.

The Mountain Lions are on a two-game losing streak since defeating Adams State on December 4. Most recently the Mountain Lions fell to #16 Colorado School of Mines. The Mountain Lions have had a tough slate to open the season opening RMAC play with a loss to #24 CSU Pueblo before taking on Adams State and #16 Colorado Mines. The Mountain Lions and Yellow Jackets have faced off 18 times in program history with UCCS holding an edge in wins with 11 over BHSU's 7.

The last time the Yellow Jackets and Mountain Lions faced off was last season on February 12. In that contest the Yellow Jackets recorded a sweep over the Mountain Lions for the season winning 68-63 in the Donald E. Young Center.
