Yellow Jackets Hit Road for Games in Colorado and Utah

Black Hills State women's basketball is hitting the road to take on Colorado Mesa and Westminster College after completing a home sweep to open RMAC play last weekend.
 
The lady Yellow Jackets will face off against Colorado Mesa Friday, December 10 at 5:30 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colorado, and the Westminster Griffins Saturday, December 11 at 5:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City, Utah.
 
BHSU opened conference play last weekend as they took on Western Colorado and Fort Lewis College coming away with wins against both teams defeating Western Colorado 45-43 and Fort Lewis College 66-38.

BHSU (4-4, 2-0 RMAC) vs Colorado Mesa (6-1, 1-1 RMAC)

The Mavericks are coming off a weekend split to open RMAC play. Colorado Mesa opened the season on the road taking on Colorado Christian University and MSU Denver. The Mavericks defeated Colorado Christian 57-46 on Friday, December 4 before falling to MSU Denver on Saturday 56-50.
 
Currently, Colorado Mesa is outshooting the Yellow Jackets in field goal percentage 40.8% to 36.6% and free throw percentage 79.2% to 67.3% while the Yellow Jackets hold the edge from beyond the arc shooting 34.5% compared to CMU's 24.7%.
 
Last season the Mavericks and Yellow Jackets faced off twice in conference play with each team taking the victory on their home courts. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Mavericks in the teams first match-up winning, 60-50, on December 11 before the Mavericks defeated BHSU on January 9, 65-58, in Grand Junction.

BHSU (4-4, 2-0 RMAC) vs Westminster College (3-3, 2-0 RMAC)

The Westminster Griffins have opened RMAC play with a 2-0 record after defeating MSU Denver Saturday night and Colorado Christian on Sunday. The Griffins defeated the Roadrunners 62-48 on Saturday behind three double digit scorers before defeating the COUGARS 66-59 after again having three athletes record double digit scores in the game.
 
Currently, Westminster is outshooting BHSU in field goal percentage 44.3% to 36.6% and free throw percentage 75.0% to 67.3%, however; BHSU holds an edge from beyond the arc shooting 34.5% compared to the Griffins 29.3%.
 
Last season the Griffins and Yellow Jackets faced off three separate times. The first time the two teams competed against one another was December 12, 2020, during conference play. In that contest BHSU was successful earning a 71-68 victory over the Griffins on a late three-pointer by Racquel Wientjes. The two teams did not face off again until the RMAC Tournament where they met in the first round. BHSU bested the Griffins again in that contest winning 71-66 to advance to the RMAC Semifinals. Finally, the two teams faced off in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Griffins won that contest behind an 8-0 run in the final three minutes of play.
