Women in Second, Men in Seventh After Day One of RMAC Championships

Day one of the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championship was highlighted by success for the Yellow Jackets.
 
BHSU had four First Team All-Conference finishers including Hoyt Nicholas, Kyla Sawvell, Maddi Fidler, and Xiomara Robinson while also having two Second Team All-Conference finishers Sully Mack and Ruby Lindquist at the completion of day one at the RMAC Championships.
 
"We had a really solid day today," said Head Coach Seth Mischke. "We got the job done where we should have and picked up some extra points with some scrappy performances. The goal is to keep the momentum we've built going for the next two days. I'm excited to watch the kids respond!"

Field Events
The day got off to a good start as the throwers took the circle geared up for intense competition. The men started out in the circle with Hoyt Nicholas and Sully Mack both set to throw in the second heat of the men's weight throw. Both Mack and Nicholas recorded throws in the top nine marks to move into the finals section of the competition. Nicholas was able to record a throw of 16.71m earning second place in the men's weight throw while Mack recorded a throw of 16.06m earning sixth place.
 
After the men's weight throw wrapped up the women took the circle with all three of the competitors for the Yellow Jackets recording tosses lengthy enough to earn them spots in the finals for the women's section of the weight throw. Freshman Savannah Perez threw 15.90m to earn herself an eighth-place finish and a new personal best at her first conference championships while senior Maddi Fidler recorded a personal best throw of 16.93m to earn third. Kyla Sawvell kept right on pace with her past performances recording another provisionally qualifying throw of 18.43m and defending her conference championship title from 2020.
 
Sprints / Distance
Breanne Fuller took care of business on the track earning her place in the 60m dash finals running 7.77. Finals will be run on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for the women's 60m dash. Mikayla Tracy also earned her spot in finals on the track taking fifth place in the women's 400m dash prelims and will compete in finals at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday. Xiomara Robinson got it done in the mile running her second sub 5:00 mile of the season (4:58.98) to earn third place for the women's mile. Following close behind was Ruby Lindquist running a 5:03.03 mile to earn fifth for BHSU.
