DENVER, Colo. - Black Hills State women's basketball fell to Metro State 58-69 to close out the regular season Saturday, Feb. 27.

Despite both
Morgan Ham and
Megan Engesser recording 13 point nights the Yellow Jackets could not pull out the win in Denver Saturday night.

The Yellow Jackets came out hot defensively in the first quarter of play against the Roadrunners recording four steals in the first 10 minutes of play. These steals would turn into six of the Yellow Jackets 12 first quarter points allowing them to keep the game close as they would be tied 12 all at the end of the first.

BHSU's defense could not stay as hot through the second quarter of play and the Roadrunners took advantage dropping 23 points and going on an 8-0 run early in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets would battle back within two midway through the quarter but ultimately would end the half down by 10, 25-35.

The third quarter momentum would stay with the Roadrunners as the Yellow Jackets would battle to make up their deficit from the first half of play. The Yellow Jackets would trade baskets with the Roadrunners throughout the quarter. Despite the Yellow Jackets best efforts to overcome the 10-point deficit the Roadrunners would hold on to their lead throughout play and increase the lead by three in the final minute of the quarter.

BHSU would shoot 41.2% in the final quarter of play as they looked to overpower the Roadrunners. Metro State would not give up on offense as they would go ahead to increase their lead to as much as 16 points with 2:33 left to play before the Yellow Jackets would reign it in on offense outscoring Metro State 8-3 in the final to minutes of play to set up the final score of 58-69 in favor of Metro State.

As a team the Yellow Jackets shot 37.7% (20-of-53) from the field and 27.8% (5-of-18) from beyond the arc. From the charity stripe the jackets made 13 of 22 free throws shooting 59.1%.

Defensively the team recorded 30 rebounds and five steals while recording two blocks.
Katie Messler led the team in rebounds pulling in seven boards while
Morgan Ham and
Ashley Davis each recorded a block.
