Softball Drop First Two of the Weekend

DENVER, Colo. – Black Hills State softball fell 8-0 in game one, and 3-2 in game two to Metro State Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets move to 2-12 on the season, both overall and in the RMAC.

Crystal Amaral threw game one, striking out five over 4.1 innings of work. In game two she entered in relief, adding another 2.1 innings and two strikeouts while allowing one earned run on four hits. At the plate, she went 2-5 on the day with a double.

Breanna Henricksen started game two and was perfect through 3.2 innings. Her final line on the day was 4.1 innings pitched, allowing only one run on three hits and a walk.

Bell Luebken went 2-5 over both games with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored, while Baileigh Hubbard also went 2-5 with an RBI.

Game One (L, 8-0)
A pitcher's duel started game one as Amaral racked up three strikeouts over the first two innings to keep it 0-0 through two. She added two more strikeouts in the fourth, but Metro State plated a pair of unearned runs to send the game into the fifth with a 2-0 lead.

Hubbard hit a single up the middle in the top of the fifth for BHSU's first hit of the game, but the team couldn't get a run across before Metro State rallied to score six in the bottom of the fifth to win, 8-0.

Game Two (L, 3-2)
Bell Luebken opened the scoring in game two with a solo home run to right-center field in the first inning to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead through one.

In the top of the fourth, leadoff singles from Luebken and Amaral set the table for Hubbard to drive in one more with a single up the middle to make it a 2-0 game.

On the rubber, Breanne Henricksen was perfect into the fourth inning before allowing a two-out double to Metro State, but retired the side one batter later.

The Roadrunners got on the board in the fifth with a run and threatened to score more, but coach Herman called on Amaral to enter in relief, who got her first batter to roll into an inning-ending double play.

Metro State added another in the sixth to send a 2-2 tie into the seventh, and went on to win 3-2 with a walk-off single.
